Renowned for his direct and straightforward manner, as well as his significant contribution to Labour’s ascent to power in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Prescott passed away serenely in the company of his family at his care home. Prescott, an ex-trade union leader and merchant seaman, played a key role in Tony Blair’s New Labour administration from 1997 to 2007. He was acclaimed for his humble working-class background and for uniting the factions within the Labour Party – the traditionalists and the modernisers. His leadership approach, characterized by a no-nonsense attitude, garnered him the moniker “Old School Bruiser. ” This direct style occasionally caused conflicts, such as the well-known event in 2001 when he physically confronted a protester throwing eggs during an election campaign. In a heartfelt statement, Prescott’s family portrayed him as a devoted advocate for social justice, environmental preservation, and the betterment of people’s lives. John’s family expressed that he had a deep affection for his hometown of Hull, and serving its residents in parliament for four decades was the pinnacle of his achievements. He embarked on his political journey in 1970, and eventually, in 2010, after many years of dedicated service, he received the honor of being ennobled as Lord Prescott of Kingston upon Hull.
