The judge overseeing Donald Trumps criminal case for allegedly paying bribes to people who wanted to hide their identities has ordered his sentencing indefinitely postponed, a legal victory for the president-elect as he prepares to return to the White House. Trump was convicted of 34 counts in May after a jury found him guilty of fraudulently manipulating business records to hide an alleged affair with a porn star before the 2016 election. Trump, who is due to be sentenced on November 26, has fought every effort to convict him before he returns to the presidency in January. It is ordered that the joint motion to suspend the sentence for the November 26, 2024, date be deferred, Judge Juan Mercan said in an order. Trump’s legal team cited a Supreme Court ruling that grants presidents complete immunity from official acts.
